MaxiMilk Cat is a specially formulated kitten milk replacer and nutritional supplement designed to provide essential proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and amino acids for healthy growth and development. Complete Milk Replacement Nutrition for Kittens
Newborn kittens depend on their mother’s milk for energy, nutrients and hydration during their first weeks of life.
Unfortunately, some kittens are orphaned, rejected by their mothers or born into litters where the queen cannot produce sufficient milk.
MaxiMilk Cat has been formulated to provide the concentrated nutrition required during these demanding early stages.
The formula combines highly digestible proteins with energy-rich fats, vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids.
Its nutritional composition makes it a useful alternative to maternal milk when natural nursing is not possible or supplementary feeding is required.
Mother’s milk remains the preferred feeding option whenever available.
For orphaned or rejected kittens, a veterinary examination is recommended to assess hydration, growth, feeding requirements and general health.
High Protein and Fat for Healthy Kitten Growth
Growing kittens have particularly high energy and protein requirements compared with adult cats.
MaxiMilk Cat contains a minimum of 32% crude protein and 40% crude fat, providing a concentrated nutritional formula.
Highly Digestible Milk Proteins
The formula contains sodium caseinate and whey protein concentrate.
These milk-derived proteins provide amino acids needed for normal tissue development, muscle maintenance and growth.
Whole egg powder provides additional high-quality protein and naturally occurring fats.
Concentrated Dietary Energy
Vegetable oil and other fat-containing ingredients contribute energy to support normal growth.
Because kittens have small stomachs, appropriately concentrated nutrition is important for meeting their requirements through frequent, small feeds.
Colostrum for Early-Life Nutritional Support
MaxiMilk Cat contains colostrum, an ingredient naturally associated with the earliest milk produced by mammals after giving birth.
Colostrum contains proteins and other biologically active compounds associated with normal immune and intestinal function.
Including colostrum contributes additional nutritional components to the formula.
Important: Colostrum in a milk replacer should not be considered an equivalent replacement for the protective antibodies obtained when newborn kittens receive their own mother’s colostrum shortly after birth.
Newborn kittens that did not nurse from their mother should be assessed by a veterinarian.
Taurine for Heart and Eye Health
Taurine is an essential dietary nutrient for cats because they cannot manufacture enough of it to meet all their requirements.
It plays important roles in normal heart function, vision, reproduction and development.
MaxiMilk Cat contains 3,000mg/kg of taurine, making it an important component of the formula’s feline nutritional profile.
Adequate taurine intake is particularly important for growing kittens and cats receiving alternative feeding.
Digestive Support with Natural Prebiotics
Young kittens have developing digestive systems that can be sensitive to sudden changes in feeding.
MaxiMilk Cat contains inulin, a source of fructooligosaccharides (FOS), which act as prebiotics.
Prebiotics provide nutrients for beneficial intestinal bacteria and help support a balanced digestive environment.
For older cats requiring additional digestive support, Keen Pets also stocks MaxiFlora 250g, a prebiotic and probiotic supplement containing Enterococcus faecium, MOS, FOS and L-glutamine.
Another option is Protexin Soluble, a multi-strain probiotic supplement suitable for cats.
Always consult a veterinarian before introducing digestive supplements to newborn or unwell kittens.
When Can MaxiMilk Cat Be Used?
Orphaned or Rejected Kittens
MaxiMilk Cat can be used as a milk replacer when kittens cannot nurse from their mother.
Kittens Requiring Supplementary Feeding

Pregnant and Nursing Queens
The powder can be added to the mother’s existing food to provide additional nutrients during periods of increased nutritional demand.
Recovering Adult Cats

How to Prepare MaxiMilk Cat
Correct preparation is particularly important when feeding newborn kittens.
Manufacturer’s mixing ratio: 1 part MaxiMilk powder to 2 parts warm water.
Preparation Instructions
- Wash your hands thoroughly and ensure all feeding bottles, teats and utensils have been properly cleaned and sterilised.
- Boil fresh water and allow it to cool to approximately 70°C, as indicated in the manufacturer’s preparation guidance.
- Add the appropriate quantity of water to a clean feeding container.
- Add one part MaxiMilk Cat powder for every two parts water.
- Whisk or shake thoroughly until the powder has completely dissolved.
- Allow the prepared formula to cool to approximately body temperature, around 37–38°C, before feeding.
- Test the temperature carefully to ensure the milk is not too hot.
- Feed the kitten slowly using suitable kitten-feeding equipment.
Example: Mix 30g of MaxiMilk powder with 60ml of water, following the manufacturer’s illustrated preparation instructions.
Never feed hot formula to kittens. Do not use a blender or boiling-hot water directly on the powder.
MaxiMilk Cat Feeding Guidelines
Newborn Kittens Until Approximately 6 Weeks or Weaning
Manufacturer’s daily feeding recommendation: 30–40ml of prepared formula per 120g of current body weight.
Divide the daily amount into several small feeds.
| Kitten Weight | Prepared Formula per Day |
|---|---|
| 120g | 30–40ml |
| 180g | 45–60ml |
| 240g | 60–80ml |
| 300g | 75–100ml |
| 360g | 90–120ml |
| 480g | 120–160ml |
These quantities are calculated from the manufacturer’s feeding ratio and represent daily totals, not individual meals.
Feeding frequency: Nutrimed recommends approximately every 3–4 hours. However, very young newborn kittens, particularly during their first one to two weeks, may require feeding every 2–3 hours, including overnight. A veterinarian should help establish the safest schedule and volume based on the kitten’s age, weight and condition.
Pregnant and Nursing Cats
Sprinkle 5g of MaxiMilk Cat per 5kg body weight daily over the cat’s existing food.
This provides additional nutritional support during pregnancy and lactation.
Adult, Recovering and Senior Cats
Sprinkle 5g per 10kg body weight daily over the cat’s regular food.
Alternatively, prepare the formula as directed when a veterinarian recommends supplementary liquid feeding.
Cats refusing food, losing weight or recovering from illness should receive veterinary attention to identify and address the underlying cause.
Safe Bottle-Feeding Practices
Bottle-feeding newborn kittens requires care and patience.
- Always ensure the kitten is warm before feeding.
- Feed kittens in a natural, belly-down position, never on their backs.
- Allow the kitten to suckle naturally without squeezing milk forcefully into its mouth.
- Never force-feed a kitten that is weak or unable to swallow normally.
- Sterilise feeding equipment between uses.
- Weigh kittens daily to monitor growth.
- Very young orphaned kittens may need gentle stimulation to urinate and defecate after feeding.
Rapid feeding can cause formula to enter the lungs, which may lead to aspiration pneumonia.
Seek urgent veterinary assistance for a kitten that is cold, weak, struggling to breathe, refusing feeds or failing to gain weight.
Weaning Kittens onto Solid Food
Kittens generally begin transitioning towards soft food at around 3–4 weeks of age, although individual development varies.
As kittens start weaning, MaxiMilk Cat can be used alongside a suitable complete kitten food to help ease the transition.
For a soft first food, consider Hill’s Science Plan Kitten & Mother Mousse 85g, specially formulated for weaning kittens and nursing queens.
As kittens develop their ability to eat solid food, Hill’s Science Plan Kitten Dry Food Tuna 1.5kg provides complete nutrition for growing kittens.
Always introduce new foods gradually, and ensure kittens can eat sufficient food independently before stopping milk feeds.
Alternative Kitten Milk Replacer
Keen Pets also stocks Kyron Kitty Milk Powder, another specially formulated milk replacer for orphaned kittens and cats requiring supplemental feeding.
Kitty Milk has its own nutritional composition, mixing ratio and feeding instructions, so always follow the directions for the specific product being used.
