AVI Delights Chinchilla 1kg

AVI Delights Chinchilla 1kg is a specially formulated dry food designed around the nutritional requirements of chinchillas. Chinchillas naturally require a diet that is high in fibre and relatively low in fat, and AVI Delights combines a varied food mixture with specially formulated pellets containing additional vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids.

The pellet portion of the mix is made large enough for chinchillas to hold comfortably while eating, encouraging their natural feeding behaviour while providing important nutrients as part of the daily ration.

For best results, AVI Delights Chinchilla 1kg should be offered alongside unlimited good-quality grass hay and constant access to clean, fresh drinking water.

Designed specifically for chinchillas

Chinchillas have a very different digestive system from dogs, cats and many other companion animals. Fibre is particularly important because their digestive tract is adapted to processing fibrous plant material throughout the day.

AVI Delights Chinchilla is therefore formulated as a low-fat, high-fibre food rather than a rich, high-energy mixture. This makes it better suited to the nutritional requirements of chinchillas than general-purpose rodent foods or seed-heavy small-pet mixes.

High fibre matters for chinchillas

A high-fibre diet is fundamental to normal chinchilla digestion. Hay should therefore remain an important part of the feeding programme even when using a formulated food such as AVI Delights Chinchilla 1kg.

Good-quality grass hay should be freely available throughout the day. The hay provides long-stem fibre and also encourages natural chewing behaviour, which is particularly important for animals whose teeth continue growing throughout life.

Low-fat nutrition

Chinchillas are not naturally adapted to rich, fatty diets. AVI Delights Chinchilla is specifically described as a low-fat, high-fibre formulation, helping make it more appropriate for regular feeding than diets dominated by nuts, fatty seeds or sugary treats.

Treats should still be offered sparingly. Chinchillas have sensitive digestive systems, so sudden dietary changes or excessive amounts of rich foods can cause digestive upset.

Added vitamins, minerals and amino acids

The specially formulated pellet portion of AVI Delights contains additional vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids to complement the other ingredients in the mixture.

Amino acids are the nutritional building blocks of proteins and contribute to normal tissue maintenance, while vitamins and minerals perform numerous roles throughout the body.

The manufacturer has not published a current detailed guaranteed analysis showing exact percentages for protein, fat or fibre for this specific 1kg product, so Keen Pets does not list unverified nutrient percentages.

Feeding AVI Delights Chinchilla 1kg

Offer AVI Delights as part of your chinchilla’s normal daily feeding programme.

• Provide an appropriate measured portion of chinchilla food each day.
• Keep good-quality grass hay available at all times.
• Provide unlimited clean, fresh drinking water.
• Remove stale, damp or contaminated food.
• Avoid excessive treats, nuts, fatty seeds and sugary foods.

The exact amount required can vary according to the chinchilla’s body size, age, condition and activity. Follow the feeding instructions on the current packaging where supplied and monitor body condition regularly.

Changing to AVI Delights Chinchilla

Introduce any new chinchilla food gradually rather than making an abrupt change. Begin by mixing a small amount of AVI Delights Chinchilla 1kg into the existing food and gradually increase the proportion over several days.

Chinchillas have sensitive digestive systems, so a gradual transition can help reduce the likelihood of digestive disturbance.

Suitable for

• Pet chinchillas
• Adult chinchillas
• Chinchillas requiring a fibre-focused everyday feeding programme

Not a substitute for hay

Although AVI Delights provides formulated nutritional support, it should not replace the long-stem fibre supplied by good-quality hay. Hay should remain freely available every day as a major component of a chinchilla’s feeding programme.

Digestive support at Keen Pets

If your chinchilla requires additional digestive support during stressful periods, travel or dietary changes, Protexin Soluble is a multi-strain probiotic suitable for rodents and other animals. Use supplements according to their directions and seek veterinary advice if your chinchilla develops persistent diarrhoea, stops eating or shows other signs of digestive illness.

You can also browse the Keen Pets online shop for additional small-animal health and care products.

Storage

Store AVI Delights Chinchilla 1kg in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the bag securely closed after opening or transfer the food to a clean, dry, airtight container.

Do not feed food that has become wet, mouldy, contaminated or developed an unusual smell.
