Fibre-Rich Nutrition for Healthy Chinchillas

Chinchillas are herbivores with digestive systems adapted to processing fibrous plant material. Providing appropriate fibre is essential for maintaining normal intestinal function and supporting overall digestive health.

Little One Feed for Chinchillas 900g contains 16% crude fibre and a variety of plant-based ingredients that complement a hay-rich feeding programme.

The inclusion of natural FOS prebiotics helps nourish beneficial gut bacteria, while the combination of grains, grasses and vegetables provides dietary variety.

For chinchillas requiring additional digestive support, Protexin Soluble is a multi-strain probiotic supplement suitable for rodents. Consult your veterinarian before introducing supplements, particularly if your chinchilla is showing signs of digestive problems.

Feeding Guidelines for Little One Feed for Chinchillas 900g

Recommended daily feeding amount: 20–25g per chinchilla.

Offer the recommended portion according to your chinchilla’s individual requirements, age, activity level and body condition.

For a balanced feeding routine:

• Provide unlimited access to good-quality grass hay.
• Ensure fresh, clean drinking water is always available.
• Introduce Little One Feed for Chinchillas 900g gradually over approximately 7–10 days when changing from another food.
• Monitor your chinchilla’s appetite, body condition and droppings.
• Avoid excessive sugary treats, fatty foods and sudden dietary changes.
• Remove damp, stale or contaminated food from feeding bowls.

Important: Hay should form the majority of a chinchilla’s diet. Formulated chinchilla food does not replace the long-stem fibre and chewing activity provided by hay.

Maintaining a Clean Chinchilla Environment

Good nutrition works best alongside proper enclosure hygiene. Chinchillas thrive in clean, dry, well-ventilated environments with suitable bedding, hiding places and opportunities for exercise.

Regularly clean feeding bowls, water containers and enclosure surfaces to help maintain hygienic living conditions.

For enclosure cleaning, consider F10 SC Vet Disinfectant, a veterinary disinfectant suitable for animal cages, enclosures and equipment when used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Always remove your pet during cleaning and allow treated surfaces to dry before returning your chinchilla.
