Why Little One Mountain Hay Is Important for Digestive Health
Rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus have specialised digestive systems that rely on a consistent supply of fibre.
Little One Mountain Hay contains 29.2% crude fibre, making it an excellent source of roughage for daily feeding.
Fibre helps maintain normal gastrointestinal movement and supports the specialised digestive processes of small herbivores.
Providing hay continuously encourages regular eating, helping maintain a stable feeding routine.
For pets requiring additional digestive support, Protexin Soluble is a probiotic supplement available from Keen Pets. Consult a veterinarian before supplementing your pet’s diet, particularly when digestive problems are present.
Natural Support for Healthy Teeth
One of the most important benefits of Little One Mountain Hay is its role in supporting healthy teeth.
Rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus have teeth that continue growing throughout their lives. Regular chewing of fibrous hay helps naturally wear down the teeth and maintain normal dental function.
Without sufficient long-stem fibre, these animals may develop dental problems that interfere with normal eating and overall wellbeing.
Providing unlimited hay encourages the prolonged chewing activity essential for maintaining healthy teeth.
Encourages Natural Foraging and Enrichment
Small herbivores naturally spend a significant portion of their day searching for and eating grasses and other plant material.
Little One Mountain Hay allows pets to express these natural behaviours in a domestic environment.
Its varied strands, textures and aromas encourage exploration and foraging, providing both nutritional and behavioural benefits.
You can place fresh hay in feeding racks, distribute small amounts around the enclosure or create safe foraging areas to encourage natural activity.
Hay can also be used as enrichment material for burrowing and nest building.
